My Topic |
For project two, my topic was drug abuse and how it affects relationships. Drug abuse affects not only the drug abuser, but the people around them as well. I analyzed how substance abuse affects young children, teenagers, spouses, along with the addict themself. I also analyzed how different government agencies, especially National Institute of Drug Abuse, are trying to help addicts recover and prevent future addiction. People who have an addict spouse/parent experience verbal and physical abuse, loneliness, and mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. The purpose of this project is to show how drug abuse can negatively affect many people, and how people are trying to prevent these issues from continuing.
English: For the English portion of my project, I analyzed how drug abuse affects young children, teenagers, and spouses of addicts. In order to show perspective in my final project, I wrote three journal entries from different perspectives on how drug abuse affected them. I wrote an entry from a young child's perspective, a teenager's perspective, and a spouse's perspective. Addiction affects everyone differently, but having an addict spouse or parent typically affects people in a very bad way. It can cause children to abuse drugs in the future, incomplete psychological development, mental illness, etc. I used my research along with personal experience to show these different perspectives. It can cause children to abuse drugs in the future, incomplete psychological development, mental illness, etc. After writing my journal entries, I added comments on the side of my documents to show the research that I completed.
History: For civics, I analyzed how the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) is trying to help put an end to drug abuse and help addicts recover. The NIDA researches substance abuse to help create better recovery centers, prevent future addiction, and they work with other agencies to learn more about the many different parts of substance abuse such as the causes, the consequences, and preventions. They fight drug abuse through their research, working with other agencies, and creating/amending legislations to help addicts and their families. To show perspective within my product, I wrote a speech from the NIDA's perspective to show how they are fighting addiction. The main purpose of the speech was to show that addicts are able to recover, and that they are not alone in recovery.
Art: For art, I analyzed how substance abuse affects family relationships, especially young children. When growing up with an addict parent, young children experience chaos, secrets, and neglect. To show perspective in this product, I created a drawing from a young child's/my perspective on growing up with an alcoholic parent. Within my drawing, I represented what a young child may see within their home as they are growing up. To create this art piece, I took an image of my living room, drew it, and then added hidden alcohol in the living room to represent the lies/secrets that children may experience with addict parents.
